My Wealthy Affiliate Journey

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. Welcome to My Pot of Tea. As you can tell from my chosen website name, I’m a BIG tea lover, I LOVE tea like no other :). This website is not necessarily about my love of tea though. Although I  might squeeze in some TEA moments haha.

But seriously, mypotoftea.com is about providing you with helpful information on relevant topics and ideas about home projects and services. I hope that you find this website and its contents helpful as I aim to provide practical and realistic information about the topics posted here. My main goal is to provide helpful information about product reviews and services relevant to home improvement projects.

My Brief Background

I’ve been in the kitchen and bath industry for over a decade. I’ve worked for two of the biggest home improvement company in the United States. I am now a full-time mom, a driver, adviser, counselor, cook, assistant, 24/7 service provider to my two wonderful kids. For right now, I’m only able to work outside home part time, pick up a few hours when I can, because I chose to watch my kids myself while my husband works very hard every day to provide for us. It’s not easy to live on one income household nowadays, but it’s a choice my husband and I made a commitment to, no matter what it takes. I love being home with my kids and would take every opportunity to stay home for them.

My WA Journey

So just like me and many other stay at home moms out there, you are most likely curious as well as to how you can bring in extra income while staying at home. After four years of research and searching, I mean lots and lots of trial and error, almost got scammed a few times, I can confidently say that I now made a commitment to learn the following:

  • how to make money online,
  • how to make passive income,
  • how to create and manage your own website,
  • how to improve yourself through education,
  • how to be anywhere in the world and still make money. (I think this is the coolest thing.)

I wouldn’t be able to do this without the wonderful program I found called Wealthy Affiliate. This Wealthy Affiliate Program Review is aimed to answer the big question, Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam?

In the next section, I would like to share my Wealthy Affiliate journey and explain why I chose this program. The main reasons are, Wealthy Affiliate is LEGIT and it is NOT a SCAM.

The WHYs

Wealthy Affiliate

Just so you understand why I’m passionate or more like energized about making money online or starting my own online business, I would like to share a little bit of my background and how I got into this, how I landed into the Wealthy Affiliate program.

Back in 2014, my husband and I along with our two children moved to California to claim an answered prayer and great blessing from the Lord for my husband. We have no family here except close friends.

At that time, my son was less than a year old. We had a terrible experience with a daycare center with our oldest child when she was 5 years old, where we almost lost her in the care of other people. From then on we made a commitment NOT to send our children to daycare centers or non-relative sitters no matter what it takes.

So I made a choice to quit my full-time job which ultimately took a big hit on us financially. We knew we had to make a huge sacrifice. I knew I would lose a decent income along with lots of good benefits and monetary incentives being with the same company for over a decade.

And I knew that if I ever have to go back to the same work, I would not get the same benefits and monetary incentives I lost from quitting. Those were just some of the unfortunate consequences of my choice.

My husband and I made it work though or I should say still making it work, living off of one income. I love staying at home, plus the time I spent with my kids, I would not trade for anything.

However, I want to earn some kind of income while staying at home. So I started searching online for work at home jobs. I read tons of articles and watched tons of online videos.

The Failures

Sometime in 2015, I came across an online review about the best work at home options for stay at home moms like me. Wealthy Affiliate came out as the number one choice.

So I signed up for their free starter membership. However, I was unsuccessful mainly because of my own faults.

  • I wasn’t motivated enough.
  • I quit too early.
  • I did not focus and follow through the lessons religiously as I should have.
  • I did not ask questions.
  • I did not use the tools available to me as a member.
  • I basically just gave up and wasted my time on a lot of things.

I tried and signed up on another program outside Wealthy Affiliate which basically just wasted my time and money. In short, I got distracted with many things and got side tracked for about 3 years.

The Relentless Pursuit

Early 2018, I started thinking about ways to make money online again.

This time, what motivated me was the idea of being able to bring home some income no matter where I am. I like the idea of flexibility and mobility. I love the idea of not being tied to one place and still earn. I can go anywhere in the world and still run my business.

So I started searching online again and came across tons of money making offers. I spent hours upon hours of watching webinars, talking to people online and over the phone. My email is bombarded with all kinds of invitations and offers.

Sometimes, I get confused on who is who and what and where.

I came across money making programs such as MLM, Ameriplan, Steve Chou, Precious Ngu, ASM, Amazon FBA, Clickbank, Apiary Funds, Alison Prince and many more.

Although some of those sounded very interesting and doable, some just really have bad reviews. Plus, I wasn’t ready and comfortable to shed hundreds or thousands of dollars for the courses and up sells.

Some offers affordable sign-up fee to get access to just a preview of the main courses, but eventually has expensive up sells that really turns me off.

Some offer free trial period and offer a refund on or before the trial period ends, if you change your mind. But to really get started making money on those programs, you have to buy the expensive courses upfront, pay a hefty monthly premium to get started, or purchase inventory items if you want to sell.

I did sign up to 3 different programs which I ended up cancelling. They are the Ameriplan, Apairy Funds, and the other is an online business, no specific business name for some reason but I think it was a high ticket MLM. What attracted me to the latter is the 90% done for you campaign and you only get to do the other 10%. What I didn’t like is the lack of transparency from the beginning, like the name of the program or business you’re joining and what exactly you’re offering to people. If you don’t ask questions in the beginning, you wouldn’t know. I was lucky I got friendly coaches who were honest enough to tell me in private exactly what the business was all about. Although I liked the product, it was just too expensive for me. There was no way, I’m going to charge it on credit.

Apiary is more on forex or currency trading which I quickly lost interest on and you have to pay monthly premium and other fees after the trial period. It was hard for me to understand and follow. If you don’t have currency trading or stock trading background, this might be a difficult one to pursue. At least it was for me.

With Ameriplan, I basically just wasted money on it, nobody knew them. I only tried it to supplement the health/medical insurance coverage for the family. I also wanted to try it first before I offer to other people as part of the business plan. Based on my experience, it did not help supplement my health/medical insurance coverage for me and my family. I could not find local providers for any of their plan. So I just gave up on it.

Needless to say, I just ended up cancelling all of them. I do  plan to write a more detailed review of all these online money making opportunities in the near future. For now, I’m just excited of my own little journey with Wealthy Affiliate which I plan to update as I progress.

F i n a l l y !

So my online research for 2018 lead me back to Wealthy Affiliate again after about 3 years. Why? Here are my simple reasons:

  • I found the most positive and good reviews about Wealthy Affiliate. Same reason I initially signed up in 2015.
  • You can start for free. No credit card required. There are some countries that don’t qualify for the free starter membership, though. If you reside on any of these following countries (Nigeria, Vietnam, Philippines, Pakistan, India), free starter membership is not yet available, BUT you can join-in as a premium member.
  • The premium membership offers much more for $49.00/month. That’s less than $2 a day investment for yourself. You can cancel anytime, no questions ask.
  • You learn at your own pace. Take a break if you need to. But do take small steps a day to keep you on track. You can go back and watch the lessons as many times as you like.
  • You’ll learn to create your own website, learn how to monetize your website to make money online and build your own business for nothing or very little cost.

The free membership has tons of courses you can learn from already.

Your investment for the Free Starter Membership are simply TIME, Self-discipline and Perseverance.

To be honest, once I got started on it again, and finally focused on the lessons, and finally understood what it really is all about, I couldn’t wait to upgrade to premium.

Although, my initial goal was to earn money, I knew I have to redefine my thought process. It’s not all about making money. It’s about doing what you love and to be able to help other people in any way we can. Now my priority is to learn as much as I can, to educate myself further. Money will come later. I like that I can learn at my own pace and I love the 24/7 online support from all members.

You save a lot by going for a yearly membership instead because you only pay $359.00/year. That is about $30/month instead of the regular $49.00/month. Sign up for Premium Here.

Other than that, the only other thing you have to spend money on is purchasing your own domain which is less $15 a year. That’s $1.25 a day. However, if you plan to sell items, you have to spend money on your own inventory and logistics.

Here is a side by side comparison between the free membership and premium membership.

Now that I understand the concept of it, I can’t stop thinking about it. My mind is always racing with thoughts and tons of ideas. Sometime I couldn’t sleep thinking about the many potential possibilities. I lie awake at night, my body wants to sleep but my mind doesn’t want to rest.

If only there is a way to just virtually transfer all the ideas in my mind into my computer or word processing tool and automatically write them all down. I can’t wait to start my next website already. As a matter of fact, I already started drafting my next one, already purchased my own domain for it and have tons of ideas about it already. If only I could duplicate myself to do them all at the same time, I would.

But then, I have to come to reality, calm myself and just thank the Lord for the vision and clarity. I did ask for this. I have been praying for vision and clarity over the past few months. And here it is. The good Lord has answered me again. I have so much blessing I can’t contain. Yes, prayer does work. And yes, He hears us all the time.

The vision is clear. I just need TIME, Self-discipline and Perseverance.

Please feel free to send me any comments below. I would love to hear your Wealthy Affiliate journey as well. Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Sheila, thanks for telling your story.  I am also a fellow tea lover!  Thanks for all your advice about Wealthy Affiliate.  I am also with Wealthy Affiliate and I find the education and community support invaluable.  I will have to find you on the Wealthy Affiliate platform and we can chat.  What has been your favourite thing you have learnt from Wealthy Affiliate so far?

    1. Hi Alicia, Thank you. I woud love to get connected with you as well. You know I love this patform and have learned a lot from it. I mean a lot and there’s a lot more to learn for sure. I can only blame myself for not taking it seriously in 2015, i wasted so much time. The favorite things i have learned so far are creating my own websites, learning to write my own contents which I seriously dread before:), and of course the many ways to earn while still learning, and many many more invaluable knowledge and like you said support. For now I would think of it as a profitable hobby worth of my time:)

  2. Wow what a journey you have had.  I will give it to you for sticking it out and trying other things.  What were some of the reasons you left in the first place? I knew you discussed some were your fault, Just makes me wonder all the same why you gave up.  I had a look at the free offer and well it looks mighty fine to me. I tried some crap stuff in the past that cost me a bit and what I see you get for free was more than what i had paid for. glad you back

    1. Well at that time Sam, I really didn’t get what it was all about. I didn’t ask questions. I quit too soon. Now I could shoot myself on the foot for quitting. I have only myself to blame. I wasted so much time running around looking for something legit and I can trust. I let it slip, and that is one thing I regret:(

  3. Hi Shiela, I know how you feel. I was there as well. I hopped from drop shipping, then went to creating courses, I did make sales from those but I had that shiny object syndrome. Now I’m here at Wealthy Affiliate!

I agree Wealthy Affiliate is the place to be, with such a great online community. The community is what really attracted me to WA and signed up due to it. Because I thought I was doing this all alone.

And I’m gaining knowledge from the community alone. But in the end what it really all boils down to is to keep giving value and taking action. I took Parreto’s law and applied it, so for me I do 80% action/giving/creating and 20% learning/consuming.

Yea, it’s always good to pick one thing you really love and stay with that until you’re a master at that skill, then you can branch down to other skills using that skill you’ve mastered.

Really great insight, thanks for sharing!

    Jose

    1. Thank you Jose for sharing and for the encouragement. I’m just really enjoying the learning process. This is something really worth my time. I am committed to stick to it this time ????

    2. Thank you Jose for sharing and for the encouragement. I’m just really enjoying the learning process. This is something really worth my time. I am committed to stick to it this time 🙂

  4. Shiela your story is really heart touching, the journey you took requires a lot of strength, which you have. Am blessed to be reading this and getting encouraged. God continue to bless you and your family.

  5. Hi Sheila.

I too have been on the chasing opportunities roundabout.  A few thousand for this course, a few thousand for that. I now am off that roundabout and have set my goal on my blog.

Wealthy Affiliate has been my savior and I have learned so much from the traing and from the help and guidance of the members.  I agree with you, this is a fantastic opportunity and should not be missed.

  6. Joining the WA community is one of the best thing that has happened to me – not because of all the fancy stuff that people say they do, but because it truly make me accountable for my own personal development. Saying that you want to be successful is easy, but most seminars/training/courses never really helped and I usually found myself inspired for a moment and later get stuck half-way through.

The non-pushy and friendly environment within WA actually make me stick to my daily routines months after months. Every time I felt like giving up, I just had to read through some success stories and I’ve get motivated again. Thanks to this, I have managed to make more than $100 this month alone. For me, that’s a milestone achievement considering that I have zero experience about online marketing in the past.

    1. Wow congratulations Cathy. That’s really great achievement for you.  I was excited on my first WA sale myself. Hope to do more 🙂
